In Search of Speech Contest Applicants

We are looking for high school students in the Cohase Region (VT: Fairlee to Wells River, NH: Orford to Woodsville – and surrounding towns on both sides of the river) to participate in this year’s Rotary Speech Contest! Winners have the potential to earn up to $1,000 in four rounds.

For rules and to enter visit:

Topic: Make a Difference by applying Rotary’s 4-Way Test. Prepare & Deliver a five-minute speech which relates the relevance of this topic to teamwork and to everyday relationships.

What is The Four Way Test? “Is it the Truth? Is it Fair to all concerned? Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendships? Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?” The Four Way Test is a statement of business and service ethics created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 when he was asked to take charge of the Chicago-based Club Aluminum Company, which was facing bankruptcy. This business ethics test was applied to all aspects of the company’s work, and the survival of the company was credited to following this philosophy.

The deadline for entries to be submitted to the Club to review are due January 9, 2018.

Selected entries will be delivered in person by each contestant on January 16, 2018 at the Cohase Rotary Club meeting, upstairs at the Colatina Exit in Bradford, VT.

Round 1: Cohase Rotary Club – $100 Prize on Jan 16, 2018
Round 2: Regional – $150 Prize on Mar 14, 2018
Round 3: District – $250 Prize on Apr 14, 2018
Round 4: District Finalists – $500 Prize on May 5, 2018 at Mount Washington Hotel

The prizes are worthwhile, it’s great public speaking practice, and it’ll look great on college applications!

NOTE: We have typically worked with schools on this, but have received no signups so far this year. We are now opening this contest up to high school students directly. Please share with eligible students. Homeschool entries are welcome!
